About Tova

Born: August 2007

BW: 553grams

Due: December 2007

Born at 24 weeks.

Tova spent her first 5 and a half months in hospital. Of those, 4 and a half were spent in NICU and one month in special care.

Because of all the tubes and trauma of being in NICU, Tova developed an oral aversion, was always full from being tube fed and refused to eat. By the time she came home, she was completely Tube Dependent. Tube dependency was never

mentioned to me as a drastic side effect of tube feeding. She was fed by a NasoGastric tube for the first year or so of her life, followed by a PEG tube inserted directly into her stomach. Tova had never eaten with her mouth until we visited a weaning program in Graz, Austria during January 2010!
After 4 weeks in their program we gained a 100% oral feeding baby!

We are home now and the PEG has been removed (04.02.2010).

Tova is tube free, eating and putting on weight (12.02.2010)

When we arrived at Graz Tova was 8.5kg. She got down to about 7.7kg during weaning, now she is aprox 8.2kg (05.03.2010)
